Mission Trip to Ghana

Recently, a challenging and exciting opportunity was presented to me, and I’d like to share it with you. In my prayer meeting with my Young Adult group the first Friday of 2020, God laid it on their heart to request for a mission trip to Ghana.

Why Ghana and why this time?
Nobody knows exactly! If you were to ask my Young Adult group why they chose Ghana of all places in the world, I’m sure they wouldn’t know exactly. It could be because Joseph their Pastor is from Ghana; what a smart way to know the roots of your pastor! But here is the thing; Paul and his entourage came to Mysia in Acts 16:6-10. His desire was to preach the gospel in Bithynia. “But the Spirit of Jesus did not allow them,” so from Mysia, they came down to Troas. As Paul slept in the night, he had a vision; he saw a man from Macedonia begging him to come to Macedonia and help. On waking up Paul concluded that God was calling him and his team to preach the gospel at Macedonia. I have taken the time to pray about the request to visit Ghana. I have also pondered over it and consulted with other stakeholders and without over spiritualizing it, my belief is that God is calling my Young Adults to Ghana.

What’s in Ghana for a typical New Englander?
This trip would be an exciting opportunity to taste the rich cultural values of Ghana, experience the unique spiritual flavor and the fervency with which Ghanaians express their Christian faith. There is also the opportunity for participants to take part in programs that will forever impact their faith and faithfulness to the Lord. The opportunity to interact with some Ghanaians and to serve in some capacity will undoubtedly enrich both lives. My hope is that whether or not we visit Ghana again following this trip, the Holy Spirit will work on the hearts of each participant, enlarge their vision of the global Church of God and ignite unparallel passion in furtherance of the Gospel here in New England and wherever the call may be.

What are some specific Activities that Participants are likely to partake in?
There are many wonderful opportunities for ministry such as street evangelism, orphanages, the deaf institute, public/private schools, and local churches. Other activities also include drama; cultural dance display, or visit some of Ghana’s cultural sites. Serendipity, as they say, “is the traveler's strongest ally!” If the Lord wills, we will make every effort while in Ghana to witness serendipitous ceremonies that display the unique culture of Ghana. Such may include; naming ceremony, funeral, engagement & wedding, baptism and more.

Date and Theme
The mission trip is taking place from August 3-10, 2020 under the theme, “Go into all the world....” (Matthew 28:18-20). We have chosen this theme to emphasize that God has called us into a world that is bigger than our City, State, Country, and Culture. A Big God has given us a big world, and He wants us to interact in it for His own purpose and glory. By visiting and serving in Ghana, we will be leaving our footprint beyond our indigenous New England culture and appending indelibly our names and positive influence in the heart of many sons and daughters of God beyond the shores of the western world.

How can you be a part?
GIVE: As Solomon said, “money answers everything (Eccl 10:19b).” As you can imagine, a trip like this is financially involving and as such requires financial support from all sources. Each person will need to raise $2,300-2,500 to cover their flight, accommodations, and other in-country expenses. The hope is that this article will serve as an invitation to churches, individuals and organizations to prayerfully give financially towards this mission. Also, the cost for this trip can increase at the time of flight booking and so we will greatly appreciate timely contributions and support.

If you would like to be part of this mission through your financial support, send a check to: Community Church of Milton, P. O. Box 457, Milton NH 03851. Please make your check payable to Community Church of Milton and write "GHA 2020" on the memo line. If you’ll also like to connect us with institutions or organizations that might be interested in supporting youth- led activities of this kind, please do so using our address below.

PRAY: Also pray fervently for this trip because, without prayer, nothing will happen. Pray for God’s will to be done! Prayer is the fuel that will allow us to succeed in our planning and every step of this mission trip. Without prayer, nothing will happen so do well to pray for us.

INVITE: I'm excited about the opportunities and experiences that lie ahead for our sons and daughters who will participate in this mission. Because of this, I want to give the young adults or youth in our churches, homes and our communities the opportunity to be part of this mission. So, share this news and encourage those you believe will benefit to join us on the GHA 2020 chariot.
